Marble and Granite care
Marble and granite are both natural stones which time has made strong and man has made beautiful with finishing touches. If Natural stone is given the proper care, the stone will sustain its beauty and durability virtually forever. To keep your natural stone surfaces looking lovely is to keep it clean.
Most commonly, unless regular cleaning is done, ordinary dust particles in the air will obscure the natural appearance of marble or granite by causing it to lose a little brightness and luster.
Natural stone surfaces should be washed with a clean, soft cloth and fresh warm water. As an additional safeguard, wash your surfaces twice a year with warm water and mild detergent. This should remove any residue which may have become ingrained. For further protection use a non-yellowing wax. Most often this will save a great deal of time spent on other repairs.
Marble is an alkaline material and acid will eat into or “etch” the stone, spills of any type of food or drink should be wiped immediately. Hot plates should be used with heated dishes. Caring for genuine natural stone surfaces as described above will prevent damage. If you are not sure the surface you want to clean is genuine natural stone check with a dealer.
Solid Surface care
Many Solid surface materials will not virtually be damaged by any liquid you would normally have around your house. However, to be on the safe side, always clean up spills promptly. These materials clean up with ordinary soap and water very quickly. They never need to be sealed. Many of them can be permanently discolored and damaged by excessive concentrated heat! Always place hot objects on trivets.
Do not attempt to remove scratches or gouges unless you receive specific instructions from a local dealer. Each solid surface material has its own distinct method of repairing scratches, burns, gouges, etc.
Quartz Surface Care
For routine cleaning, use a damp cloth or paper towel and, if necessary, a small amount of non-bleach, nonabrasive cleanser. A Quartz surfaces like Zodiaq is heat- and scratch-resistant, but not heat- and scratch-proof. Therefore, the use of a cutting board is recommended when using a knife.
To maintain the beauty of your quartz surface, do not place hot skillets or roasting pans directly onto the surface. We recommend the use of trivets and hot pads.
Avoid exposing quartz surfaces to strong chemicals and solvents; especially paint removers or furniture strippers containing trichlorethane or methylene chloride. Keep nail polish remover, bleach, bluing, permanent markers or inks, and oil soaps away. If any of the substances listed above come into contact with surface, rinse the exposed surface immediately and thoroughly with water.
